Lancaster U17/U15 Foil Tournament

Congratulations to Lancaster Fencing Club  for hosting such a successful, smooth and friendly U17/U15 Tournament on Wednesday Sept 1.  Fencers from 4 differant clubs in the ACT took part. The standard of fencing is going up at each Junior Night, but it's great to see everyone having such a good time. A special 'Thank You!' to the Club organisers, the referees and the volunteers that set-up and packed-up the equipment. And of course Gordon, who was running between Results entry, Refereeing and Weapons-repairs! The next U17/U15 Night will be at Engarde Monday Oct 18.
 

Urgent Notice-Change of dates for ANU Comps

The ANU Annual Sabre competition will be held on Sunday 5th September, with registration closing at 9:45 am. Entry cost is $15. Medals will be awarded to place-getters. There will be no team event. Minimum equipment is long pants and jacket.This competition will replace one of the ANU Monthly Sabre comps and the ANU monthly Epee will be rescheduled to Sunday 3rd October. The fate of the U20 monthly has yet to be decided.

 

 

New Coaches

ACT Fencing congratulates Justin Bewsher and Chris Sadler on being the latest coaches to succesfully complete the Level 1 Coaching Accreditation process - a process that can take up to 12 months and includes exams, assignements and supervised coaching. The number of accredited coaches has tripled in the last 5 years and has lead to more clubs operating throughout Canberra.
 

Australian U20s and Secondary Schools Championships

The Australian U20s and Secondary School Championships will be held in Melbourne, Victoria October 6 -10 2010. Entry fee is $60 per competition.      Entries + payments must be in to ACTFA  by September 13.  To enter, please email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. ACT Foil Competitions

Swordplay FC invites Foilists to their Foil Club comp this Thursday September 26.The venue is the Woden Basketball Courts.  Registration closes at 6.55pm. Entry fee is $2 for Swordplay members and $10 for non-Swordplay members.

The following week on September 1, Lancaster FC is hosting an U17/U15/U13 Foil Round Robin tournament at Lancaster Hall in Barton. Fencing will be electric. Please arrive promptly at 6.30pm to register, warm-up and get ready.  Entry is free!

CALL FOR NOMINATIONS – ATHLETES
The Australian Fencing Federation (AFF) calls for nominations from athletes for selection to represent Australian at the 2010 Senior World Championships. A subsequent call for nominations for Officials will be made soon. Further information about these Championships can be found on the event website http://www.escrime-2010.com/.

ATHLETES
The selection criteria for the 2010 Senior World Championships are detailed in the AFF Selection Policy available from the AFF website at www.ausfencing.org. Any fencer considering nomination for the Championships should read the document fully and, if they are unclear on any issue, submit their questions IN WRITING to Alex Donaldson or Andrew Ius at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. NSW Fencing Regatta Weekend

NSW FA  is hosting a 'Regatta Weekend' on on 18th/19th September and there is something for everyone!. The weekend will start at midday on Saturday, at Sydney Uni club, with an armourers course and a referee workshop followed by general fencing where the referee skills can be practiced.  Dinner and a bit of socialising and budget accomodation overnight.  Early start at Marrickville PCYC at 7am for a coaching course and the Novice State Championships at 10am.  There is also a club teams event on that day.  These should finish by mid afternoon which gives a reasonable time to drive home again. The courses and workshops are worth re-accreditation points for Level 1 Coaches at the rate of approx. 1 point per hour.  See the attached flier for details.
