• The ACT Fencing Association Inc. (ACTFA) is the representative body for the sport of Fencing in the ACT.  We are affiliated with the Australian Fencing Federation (AFF) and through the AFF, the Federation Internationale d'Escrime (FIE).

  • ACTFA supports local fencing though providing equipment for clubs to hire, running state competitions, providing local rankings, training and accrediting officials, organising promotional events and media coverage and more.

  • Within the ACT and surrounding areas there are a number of ACTFA affiliated Fencing Clubs providing beginner, intermediate and advanced training and competitions.  Individual fencers are also affiliated with ACTFA, usually through their club membership or they may join ACTFA directly.  ACTFA affiliation permits local fencers to compete nationally and, with additional requirements, internationally through the AFF to the international fencing body, the FIE.

Congratulations to the medalists  from the 2014 State Open and Novice Championship held at the new venue Tuggeranong Archery Centre on the Canberra Day Long Weekend.  Well done also to all those that competed for the first time, and to those that achieved Personal Bests.  And a special thankyou to all those that helped run and set up this very high quality event.  It was the largest State tournament in terms of entries in our ACTFA history, but ran very smoothly.  Money raised from sales at the canteen will be used to assist coaches with costs involved with interstate travel and expenses.

ACT Fencers invites all young fencers to compete in the U13 u11 and U9 Fencing tournament  on Saturday April 12 at St Gregory's Primary School Hall in Macquoid St Queanbeyan.  This year we have added u13 Sabre and U9 Foil. The U15 comps from last year will be held on a separate weekend. The philosophy behind this tournament is to provide a friendly relaxed and easy tournament for very young fencers to experience fencing out side club. Please read the attached flier.

Women of the ACT Fencing Community are invited to a social walk around Lake Burley Griffin Central Basin. Please read the info sheet  attached below. This event is free of charge. All women and girls associated with fencing in the ACT and
surrounds are welcome, whether ACTFA affiliated or not. Children welcome if required, but will be the responsibility of their
parent/guardian.

Southern Highlands Fencing Academy hosted a tournament on Sunday 16 March. Regional tournaments are a great way for ACT fencers to experience competitions in a friendly, relaxed manner outside the ACT. Details are in the attached information sheet below. PLEASE NOTE: this tournament is NOT part of the ACTFA ranking system!

The next ACTFA Training Camp will take place on Sunday 16th March at the ANU.  The camp will run from 11am to 4pm and will concentrate upon fitness training and footwork with some time for fencing.

Fee for the camp is $25 and participants should bring lunch and plenty of water.

The upcoming Canberra Day tournament is an opportunity to gain some experience and get feedback from Stephen Darragh and David Mok, two FIE accredited referees. 
If you have completed the referee course and would like to pursue accreditation, please contact me with whether you will be there and if you are competing.
 
For those who have not completed the referee course, we will be holding one on the first weekend of May (3rd & 4th). More details to come soon, but put this weekend in your calendars. Fencers will find the course helpful in understanding why the referee is not giving you the points you think you deserve...

This year,  we will be running a canteen at the Canberra Day tournament on March 8-9.  The aim is to raise money that can be put in a fund to help coaches that travel with ACT fencing groups to interstate comps (so far, at their own expense).  Please come and help for one hour while the fencing is on.  Contact Di at Engarde or Letitia at CDDC/squad or email This email address is being protected from spambots. Many thanks  to the ANU Fencing Club for donating half of the Entry fees from last nights Season Opener comp to Cancer research.  Thankyou also to the large number of fencers that supported the initiative and competed. Congratulations to  Katrina Cornelly and Jeremy Shelley on their  victories in the Womens and Mens Epee.  This comp is part of the 2014 Season Rankings.    You can find the full results and the Rankings Policy  in the  Main Menu (right).
