Important news on Leon Paul Epee blades
- Details
The ACT Fencing Association has followed the lead of the AFF and banned the use of Leon Paul FIE Epee Blades (as described in the July 3 FIE Letter, below) at State tournaments, effective immediately (as this is a safety issue). The blades are already banned at FIE and AFF events. Fencers will note that Leon Paul has removed its FIE Epee blades from its online catalogue. The ban does not extend to epee blades which are manufactured by BF but sold by Leon Paul. Other blades sold by Leon Paul are not affected.
National Summer training Camp at the AIS
- Details
Each year, the Australian Fencing Federation (AFF) holds a number of camps in Canberra at the Australian Institute of Sport, covering all three weapons. The next camp is being held from 17-21 December, and provides the opportunity for ACT fencers to train and develop alongside the best fencers in Australia, including members of the Australian Fencing Team and Australian Fencing Squad.
Six ACT fencers have already been invited to the camp, and ACTFA is seeking nominations from a similar number of experienced fencers who are willing to work hard for four days to take full advantage of this excellent opportunity. The ideal participant would be at least 14 years old, and already have some experience in fencing at the State or National level – however we are willing to consider anyone who is genuinely interested. While participation at the camp usually costs over $300, ACTFA is able to provide a number of subsidised places in exchange for the equipment that we provide to the camp. The final cost per ACTFA fencer will depend on the number of fencers attending and the equipment provided, but is likely to be between $100-$150 (this excludes any food and accommodation/travel costs, which will be borne by the fencer).
Interested fencers should contact Chris Sadler (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.) by Friday 23 October. The ACTFA Committee will then consider the list of names, and pass the final list of nominations to the AFF. Please note that nominations will not be automatically accepted by either ACTFA or the AFF, and may depend on the relative experience of nominees and the number of nominations received.
