2010 ACTFA Affiliation

ACTFA Affiliation is  valid from January to December each year. For 2010, ACT fencers can either download and print out the  Affiliation form, or-from 2010 onwards for the first time-complete the Online Membership Form (see the Main Menu to the left). Payment can be made either by direct deposit into the ACTFA Bank Account or by cheque or cash to the ACTFA treasurer.  Details of the Bank account and postal address are on the membership form. New Australian Fencing Website

The new website for Australian Fencing was launched at the AFF Meeting in Melbourne on the weekend.  Please visit:
www.ausfencing.org

and have a look.  The dates for national tournaments in 2010 are already in the calendar.

The new website is Stage 1 of an on-going development. More features will be added over the next 12 months.  Please keep checking it weekly to keep up with what's happening in your sport, locally nationally and internationally.
 

Australian National Fencing Championships 2009

The National Fencing Championships 2009 were held in Sydney from November 27- December 1. ACT numbers were up almost 50% on last year and the number of ACT Team entries were up from two to three. Congratulations to all the medalists, participants and especially the AFF and NSW organisers on a successful event. See the Ausfencing Events website for all the results (via the Main Menu).

Junior Fencing

The local ACT fencing calendar drew to a close for the year on the weekend when ACTFA hosted the first 'Junior Day' at Mackillop College Wanniassa on Sunday.  Young fencers aged between 8 and 16 from 4 local clubs took part in games and fencing-excercises in the morning and competed after lunch. A big Thank You! to the coaches that offered their time to make the day an enjoyable finale to the 2009.

The 2009 ACTFA Presentation Night was held at the Old Canberra Inn on Saturday 14 November.

The following ACT Champions were announced:

ANU Fencing Club won the Club Participation and the Club Competition Pennants for 2009.

 

Congratulations to all the trophy-winners and well-done to all the competition participants throughout 2009. Thank you to all the volunteers throughout the year that made the competitions runs smoothly and efficiently-particularly everyone that was involved in the Canberra Day Tournament in March and the D H McKenzie national Tournament in April.
 

NSWFA Summer Camp

NSWFA Summer Camp

 

NSW will run a Summer Camp for all weapons for U13, U15 and U17 fencers.  The camp will run from 18th to 22nd January, from 8am to 12 noon.  The camp will involve intensive bouting and is an opportunity for the Head Coach and selectors to observe up and coming talent which will assist in consideration for the 2010 squads.

 

ADFA Annual tournament

 The ADFA Fencing Club hosted the Annual ADFA Fencing Tournament October 17/18 2009.

The ANU Epee and Foil teams won gold in the Team competitions. ANU Club President Justin Bewsher  won both the Mens Individual Foil and Individual Epee competitions.
Katrina Cornelly won gold in the Women's Epee, Cerry Alicia won silver and Joshi Pitman won  bronze.
Katrina also won silver in the Women's Foil. The Womens Foil gold was won by Di Deveraux.
Overall, ANU won the ADFA Cup  for the second year in a row.  Congratulations to the whole team, well done!

The ADFA Annual was the last competition to be held this year in Canberra, the next event in the ACT will be the Canberra Day tournament next March 6/7.  There is one more tournament included in the ACTFA Rankings for 2009: the NSW Open Foil championships this coming weekend in Marrickville.  See the NSW website for details.

 

 

NSW Epee Championships 2009

ACT Fencers won two medals at the NSW Epee Championships held in Sydney October 11.  Justin Bewsher won silver against  Nils Lemee in the Mens Competition, and Katrina Cornelly won Bronze in the Womens.
